Supporting the Elderly

India today has more than 100 million senior citizens. The elderly, who have provided their services and support to the society, feel unloved and neglected at this phase of their lives. Todays rapid globalization has taken over the traditional values prioritizing socio-economic priorities. Children and grand children find no time for the senior citizens in their family. The lack of affordable health care in Bihar, poor financial condition and and neglect by the society has impelled Jesus Educational & Social Upliftment Society to do something about it, bringing elder welfare programs.

Spreading the warmth Campaign

While working for the welfare of older persons, volunteers and members at Jesus Educational & Social Uplifment Society reported that every year thousands of old, destitute and poor people die of the cold. On the other hand, most of us let our old woolens lie in cupboards and suitcases, unused. Keeping in view of severe cold conditions in Bihar we decided to set off a campaign “Spread the Warmth” for underprivileged & elderly people.

We do our best to ensure that no destitute old person is deprived of warmth during winters. We collect old/used woolens and other relief material from across Bihar and reach out to donors for new blankets and other support material.

Free Healthcare Campaigns for Destitute Elderly

An important part of our supporting the elderly initiative is organizing health camps in rural as well as sub urban areas of the state. Since 2014 in association with our network and sponsors we have successfully organised both general and specialized health camps for the elderly. A general camp team comprises of general physician, pharmacist and assistant. A specialised health camp has a team of specialised doctors like dentists, ophthalmologists, orthopaedic besides general physician, pharmacist and assistant. The health camps ensuring diagnosis, treatment and referrals for general ailments. These camps also focus on preventive health care program through Information, Education and Communication and Behaviour Change Communication activities among the community.
